Medusa 

The top-secret and government-funded project codenamed Medusa is a vital part of David Webb's life. Taking place during the Vietnam War, Webb was recruited into Medusa by friend and CIA agent, Alexander Conklin after the death of Webb's wife and children. At the time, Webb was furious and wanted revenge against the people that presumably killed his wife and children, the North Vietnamese. The reason why Medusa remains top-secret is because the members of Medusa were all criminals, who were hired by the American government during the war to do its dirty work. They were considered a death squad.Working in Medusa, Delta (David Webb) became well known as a ruthless person, with little regard for orders, but succeeding in all his missions.

One member of Medusa was a man by the name of Jason Charles Bourne. During a mission  it was found out that Jason Bourne was a double agent born in Australia. When Delta discovered Bourne's status as a double agent, he executed Bourne in the jungles of Tam Quan. Bourne's murder by Delta was never exposed due to the Top Secret status of Medusa.

Years later, a black ops arm of the CIA was formed called Treadstone 71 and Webb was called up by the creator of Treadstone and the creator of Medusa (nicknamed The Monk). At this point, Webb (Delta) takes the identity of Jason Bourne due to the fact that Bourne was in reality a ruthless killer that had a long criminal record. The point of all this was to turn Jason Bourne into something more than he really was, a contract assassin who would be known all over the world for terminating the lives of just about anyone. The assassin's alias was Cain. The reason to create such a myth of Cain was to create competition for a well known assassin named Carlos, who at that time was considered the world's best assassin and a danger to the USA.

With the myth of Cain, the USA Government focus was to drive Carlos out in the open and capture him.

What's behind Jason Bourne?

The character named Jason Bourne has a long and mysterious past. First off, his real name is David Webb. He was a career foreign service officer, specifically a specialist in Far Eastern affairs. Before the events in Identity, Webb had a wife and two children in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia.

 During the Vietnam War an aircraft strayed into Cambodia and dropped two bombs at a spot near the Mekong River unintentionally killing Webb's wife and two children. Due to Cambodia's neutrality in the war, every nation disclaimed the plane since no one wanted to be responsible for the incident. Having nothing left, Webb went to Saigon and trained for a special top-secret unit called Medusa (many years later the unit and its actions would still remain top-secret). At this point, Webb turned into Delta, his codename within the unit.

Segnato dalla morte di moglie e figlia negli attentati dell'11 Settembre e da quella del suo mentore avvenuta in circostanze sospette, Will scopre pian piano (non è una serie adatta a un pubblico da "tutto e subito") che il suo patriottico lavoro viene in realtà sfruttato per fini poco nobili. I pezzi del puzzle vengono assemblati lentamente e il silenzio gioca un ruolo importante nella sceneggiatura.

Sì, lo so, voi che avete ceduto alla tentazione di smettere di sognare penserete che tra fiction e realtà c'è un abisso incolmabile. Mi direte che nulla di ciò che si vede sullo schermo può essere realizzato nei laboratori "veri" o almeno non con la stessa rapidità e precisione. Magari in parte avete anche ragione, ma ciò che mi interessa sottolineare è che i personaggi che deridete sono in realtà ottimi stimoli per avvicinare noi altri, pubblico sognante, a rami e rametti di scienze delle quali ignoravamo l'esistenza. Anche voi accademici quindi, non fate i difficili e soprattutto ammettetelo: le tv-series divulgano mediamente meglio di voi; perché tutto sommato è meglio arrivare al pubblico con qualche imprecisione tecnica piuttosto che non arrivare.

Guardate per esempio Temperance "Bones" Brennan, l'antropologa forense più famosa della serial-age in cui viviamo.

Many of the realities around us are serial: series of events, components, moments. Life itself is nothing but a series of which we don't know the total number of episodes. The TV series, with their sequential episodes, they just try to imitate the serial scanning of our daily life and maybe that's why they take us and make us fall in love.  

So welcome in the age serial, welcome in SERIAL-AGE.

GIL GRISSOM, how to become.

It is really complicated to reach the level of curiosity and the powers of observation of the mythical and unbeatable Gil, but if you think that the most intriguing feature of this character is his entomological knowledge, you should know that in Italy there are places and people who could introduce you to the world of FORENSIC ENTOMOLOGY. Yes, people who study our insect friends which attack in subsequent waves dead corpses. Here are some pieces of advice on people you may contact if you have a basic biological background and you are eager to learn and to dirty your hands.

The Department of Forensic Medicine of the University of Pavia has a wonderful forensic entomology lab headed by Prof. Simonetta Lambiase.

Also at the University of Padua it is possible to study forensic entomology; if you are interested contact Prof Margherita Turchetto or Dr. Stefano Vanin.

In the Turin area you can get in touch with Dr. Paola Magni, while if you are interested in the University of Molise your contact is Prof. Carlo Pietro Campobasso.

...più o meno...adesso!
Il corso inizia... più o meno...adesso, proprio allo scoccare dell'ora che preferite e ringraziando gli amici di WTA vi presento me stesso: mi chiamo Morgan Link e in attesa di news da Bernard, sarò il vostro supplente.
Apparirà chiaro in seguito che questo ormai iniziato corso, non è affatto un corso, quanto piuttosto un cammino, un gattono o un saltello, insomma roba fatta con calma senza alcuna fretta. Il mondo fa il suo corso, noi il nostro cammino.
Queste lezioni lasciano il tempo che trovano, ma ciò non è affatto grave perché evidentemente neanche lo cercavano, il tempo. Probably se lo sono trovato lì tra i piedi e hanno pensato di non disturbarlo. E i piedi? Quali dicono loro? quelli che avete sottosopra. Li avete sotto o sopra? Silenzio.
Dipende dal punto di vista. Direste sopra se foste suole.

Il fatto è che vi sembrerà fatto male se fatto con i piedi, ma non è sempre così, dipende da cos'è il fatto in questione. Per esempio se dovete classificare alcuni gruppi di animali, farlo con i piedi va benissimo, perché sono proprio i piedi una delle cose che dovete guardare per distinguere una bestia dall'altra.
